BUSY

Satan called a worldwide convention of demons.  In his opening address he said, “We can’t keep Christians from going to church.  We can’t keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth.  We can’t even keep them from forming an intimate relationship with their Saviour.  Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken.  So let them go to their churches;  let them have their conservative lifestyles, but steal their time, so they don’t have time to develop a real relationship with Jesus Christ.  This is what I want you to do,” said the devil. “Distract them from gaining hold of their Saviour and maintaining that vital connection throughout their day!”
“How shall we do this?” his demons shouted.

“Keep them busy in the nonessentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds,” he answered.  “Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow.  Persuade the husbands and wives to go to work for long hours, 12-14 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles. Keep them from spending time with their children. As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!

Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that “still, small Voice“. Entice them to play the radio or MP3’s whenever they drive… to keep the TV, DVD’s, CD’s and their PC’s going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the world play degrading and hateful music constantly.  This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ.  Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers.  Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day.  Invade their driving moments with billboards.  Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and false hopes.

“Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines and TV so their husbands will believe that outward beauty is what’s important, and they’ll become dissatisfied with their wives.  Women will forget how beautiful they really are and start to hurt themselves to fit someone else’s idea of how they should look.  Keep the husbands and wives too tired to love each other at night.  Give them headaches too!  If they don’t get the love they need, they will grow lonely and will begin to look elsewhere.  That will fragment their families quickly!

“Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real meaning of Christmas. Give them an Easter bunny so they won’t talk about His resurrection.

“Even in their recreation, let them be excessive… have them return from their recreation exhausted.  Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God’s creation.  Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead.  Keep them busy, busy, busy!  And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, they will leave with troubled consciences.

“For those who resist all the temptations of television and worldly pursuits, crowd their lives with so many good causes that they have no time for inner search.  Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause.”

“It will work! It will work!!”

Did you know, the only place in the Bible (KJV) where the word “busy” is written, is in a negative context?

1 Kings 20
39  And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, “Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, “Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.”  40  And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone.”  And the king of Israel said unto him, “So shall thy judgment be;  thyself hast decided it.”

Could B-U-S-Y possibly stand for
B – bending
U – under
S – satan’s
Y – yoke ?

Jesus said:  “Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me;  for I am meek and lowly in heart:  and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”  (Matthew 11:28-30)

What a contrast between the rest that Jesus gives, and the stress and tiredness of being BUSY!

Lose my soul

Kirk Franklin:
(I wanna tell you all something, man…
I’m not gonna let these material things get in my way, y’all –
I’m trying to get somewhere…
I’m trying to get somewhere that’s real and pure and true and eternal.)

tobyMac:
Father God, I am clay in your hands(Jeremiah 18:6)
help me to stay that way through all life’s demands,
’cause they chip and they nag and they pull at me,
and every little thing I make up my mind to be:
Like I’m gonna be a daddy whose in the mix,
and I’m gonna be a husband who stays legit,
and I pray that I’m an artist who rises above,
the road that is wide and filled with self-love.
Everything that I see draws me,
though it’s only in You that I can truly see
that it’s a feast for the eyes, (but) a low blow to purpose,
and I’m a little kid at a three-ring circus…

I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.

(Mr. Franklin, Step up to the mic, sir…)

Kirk Franklin:
The paparazzi flashes, and that they think that it’s you,
but they don’t know that who you are is not what you do.
True, we get it twisted when we peak at the charts,
Yo’, before we part from the start, Where’s your heart?
You a pimp, hustler?  tell me what’s your title;
America has no more stars, now we call them idols.
You sit idle, while we teach prosperity,
The first thing to prosper should be inside of me.
We’re free…  Not because of 22’s on the range,
but Christ came in range, we said, “Yes”, now we’re changed – (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Not the same, even though I made a fall,
Since I got that call, no more Saul, now I’m Paul.  (Acts 9:1-20, Acts 13:9)

I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
Don’t wanna walk away,
Don’t wanna walk away

Mandisa:
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in light of eternity
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
It’s hypnotizing me from living in light of eternity…
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in light of eternity…

(Lord, what we gonna do;  we’re relying on You,
all eyes are on You, Lord,
all eyes are on You, all eyes are on You, Jesus.)

I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
(Don’t let me lose my soul, my soul.)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(This is my honesty, Father, won’t you cover me.)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(Don’t wanna walk away, and all those people say)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(Don’t wanna lose, I don’t wanna lose my soul.)

tobyMac:
Lord, forgive us when we get consumed by the things of this world,
That fight for our love, and our passion,
As our eyes are open wide and on you.
Grant us the privilege of your world view,
And may your kingdom be what wakes us up, and lays us down.

Scripture:

Mark 8:34-38 (see also Matthew 16:24-27 and Luke 9:23-25)

And when He had called the people unto Him with His disciples also, He said unto them, “Whosoever will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.  For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?  Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of Me and of My words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

James 4:4
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

James 1:27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Matthew 6:19-21, 24
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  …  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

Luke 11:23
“He that is not with Me is against Me: and he that gathereth not with Me scattereth.”

1 John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.

More than conquerors

When my hope and strength is gone,
You’re the One Who calls me on –
You are the Life, You are the fight that’s in my soul…

Oh, Your resurrection power
burns like fire in my heart;
When waters rise I lift my eyes up to Your throne.

We are more than conquerors, through Christ
You have overcome this world, this life
We will not bow to sin or to shame
We are defiant in Your Name
You are the fire that cannot be tamed
You are the power in our veins
Our Lord, our God, our Conqueror

I will sing into the night:
Christ is risen and on high!
Greater is He living in me than in the world!

No surrender, no retreat:
we are free and we’re redeemed!
We will declare over despair: You are the hope!

Chorus

Nothing is impossible;
Every chain is breakable:
With You, we are victorious

You are stronger than our hearts;
You are greater than the dark:
With You, we are victorious

Romans 8:37
“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.”

1 John 4:4
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

1 Corinthians 15:57
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Here I go again

Father, hear my prayer:  I need the perfect words.
Words that he will hear and know they’re straight from You.
I don’t know what to say;  I only know it hurts
to see my only friend slowly fade away…

So maybe this time I’ll speak the words of Life with Your fire in my eyes.
But that old familiar fear is tearing at my words:  What am I so afraid of?

‘Cause here I go again – talking about the rain
and mulling over things that won’t live past today
And as I dance around the Truth, time is not his friend,
This might be my last chance to tell him that You love him,
But here I go again, here I go again

Lord, You love him so, You gave Your only Son
If he will just believe; he will never die!
But how then will he know what he has never heard,
Lord he has never seen mirrored in my life?

So maybe this time I’ll speak the words of Life with Your fire in my eyes.
But that old familiar fear is tearing at my words:  What am I so afraid of?

Chorus

2 Corinthians 4

1  Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2  But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3  But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5  For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
8  We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9  Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
10  Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
11  For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
12  So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
13  We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
14  Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
15  For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
16  For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
17  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18  While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Ephesians 6 – the Armour of God

Armour of God - young man bowing

10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;Armour of God - young woman standing

Whatever it takes

There’s a Voice calling me from an old rugged tree
and It whispers, “Draw closer to Me;
Leave this world far behind – there are new heights to climb
And a new place in Me you will find.”

For whatever it takes to draw closer to You, LORD –
That’s what I’ll be willing to do.
For whatever it takes to be more like You,
LORD, t
hat’s what I’ll be willing to do.

Take the dearest thing to me if that’s how it must be
To draw me closer to You.
Let the disappointments come, lonely days without the sun
If through sorrows more like You I’ll become.

For whatever it takes to draw closer to You, LORD –
That’s what I’ll be willing to do.
For whatever it takes for my will to break,
LORD, t
hat’s what I’ll be willing to do.

Take my houses and my lands, change my dreams and my plans
For I’m placing my whole life in Your Hand.
And when you call me some day to my Home far away,
LORD, I’ll go and Your will obey.

Bridge:
I’ll trade sunshine for rain
I’ll trade comfort for pain
That’s what I’ll be willing to do
For whatever it takes for my will to break, LORD,
That’s what I’ll be willing to do.

~ Performed by Lanny Wolfe (1975)

I’d rather have Jesus

I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold
I’d rather have Him than have riches untold
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands
I’d rather be led by His nail-pierced Hands

Than to be a king of a vast domain
and be held in sin’s dread sway
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
this world affords today.

I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause
I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause
I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame
I’d rather be true to His Holy Name

He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom
He’s sweeter than honey from out of the comb
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs
I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead
