Sparrows

Matthew 6:26 & Matthew 10:29-31

Matthew 6:26 & Matthew 10:29-31

You can’t add a single day by worrying –
you’ll worry your life away…
Oh, don’t worry your life away!
You can’t change a single thing by freaking out,
it’s just gonna close you in;
Oh, don’t let the trouble win!

You may feel alone,
but you’re not on your own!

(La-la-la, la-la-la-la)
If He can hold the world, He can hold this moment!
(La-la-la, la-la-la-la)
Not a field nor flower escapes His notice…
Oh, even the sparrow
knows He holds tomorrow…

Lean in and it’s hard to miss: everything can change
when you make it His –
oh, He wants to carry it…
Carefree in the care of God, when you let it go
you’ll find that He’s enough!
Oh, you never leave His love…

You don’t walk alone!

Chorus

There’s not a single star that’s out of place,
there’s nothing broken He can’t remake…
If you long for hope when you’re afraid,
oh, look at the sparrow,
look at the sparrow…

Chorus

God’s perfect timing

I may be part of a small minority of people (I’m not sure), but I love dates.  God has wired my mind in such a way that I find it easy to remember dates, specifically birthdays and anniversaries.  I think it has something to do with the way I learn by association, and I remember dates by associating a certain person (or event) with a date.

Recently my life has changed quite a bit, and most of these are really significant changes.  With all these changes, I’ve learned a wonderful truth:  God has a perfect plan, with perfect timing, for my life.  Let me explain.

I have kept a diary for a couple of years, and with my interest in dates, the following events has taken place, to which my attention has been drawn the last week:

  • 18 July 2009 – the day on which I met my husband.
    18 July 2010 – I joined a wonderful church that played a big part of who I am now.  We were part of this church for 5 years.
  • I worked for 3 months at my first job in retail, and found another job within my last week of probation.  I started working at this second job in admin on 11 April 2011.  For a few years, I prayed and searched for another job, until I finally got an opportunity in education earlier this year.  My last day at this (2nd) job was on 22 April 2016, almost exactly 5 years later.  (It actually could have been exactly 5 years – I took certain factors into account and thought it best to work a few extra days than what the 30-day notice period stipulated.)
  • I started working at my current job on 25 April 2016, and my last day will be on 26 August 2016, almost exactly 4 months later, due to better job opportunities for my husband.  (We were open about this from the interview stage, and my current employer is okay with that.)
  • When my husband and I got engaged and started looking for a wedding venue, the only date our chosen venue had available was 1 September 2012 – the first day of Spring in South Africa.  I loved the significance of it – a new season for both of us as husband and wife.  This year, on the 31st of August, we will move to another major city, and we will start a “new season” on the 1st of September 2016, exactly 4 years (seasons?) later.

There are certain things in my life that I am still hoping and praying for, and I sometimes get discouraged that these dreams have not come true for me yet.  I compare my life to that of my peers, and it sometimes feels like I have been left behind, that God has forgotten about me, or that things just aren’t working out for me like I hoped they would.

It is times like these that I have to remind myself that God has REALLY got a perfect timing for everything in my life, even though my life doesn’t work out the way I had thought it would.  Sometimes things take time to fall into place.  I prayed for a job in education for YEARS – and at the perfect time, I got the perfect job at a school of which I was part of the opening staff.  Last year this time, this school did not exist yet, and there were certain things that had to happen before this door could be opened (although I suffered through my last few months at my previous job, wondering if God would ever change my circumstances!).

I hope and pray that this will encourage you, too.  God really has got a perfect timing for your life.  Just keep going, hoping and praying.  Don’t give up – you never know how near you are to the victory!!

Don't give up!

Don’t give up!

Keep holding on to the Scriptures that tells about God’s GOOD (I have a few previous posts about God’s Goodness…).

Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”

Jeremiah 29:11-14
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” saith the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  12  Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.  13  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.  14  And I will be found of you,” saith the LORD: “and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven…  He hath made every thing beautiful in his time…”

I’m praying that each one of you who will read this, will realize the great love that God has for you, and that “… the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”  (Psalm 84:11)  Keep the faith, keep holding on to Him, looking to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith, let your life work out perfectly according to the GOOD plans He has for you.  (Hebrews 12:1-2)  God bless each of you.

Hebrews 12

1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,  2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.   3  For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.  11  Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Matthew 6:26 & Matthew 10:29-31

We won’t be shaken

This world has nothing for me;  this life is not my own.
I know You go before me and I am not alone!
This mountain rises higher, the way seems so unclear…
But I know that You go with me so I will never fear!
I will trust in You…

Whatever will come our way,
through fire or pouring rain –
we won’t be shaken, no, we won’t be shaken.
Whatever tomorrow brings,
together we’ll rise and sing
that we won’t be shaken, no, we won’t be shaken.

You know my every longing, You’ve heard my every prayer…
You’ve held me in my weakness ’cause You are always there.
So I’ll stand in full surrender – it’s Your way and not my own.
My mind is set on nothing less than You and You alone…
I will not be moved, oh…

Chorus

We will trust in You
We will not be moved
We will trust in You
And we won’t be shaken

Psalm 62:1-2

A Psalm of David.  My soul waits in silence for God only;  From Him is my salvation.  He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken. (ESV)

Oceans

You call me out upon the waters:
the great unknown, where feet may fail…
And there I find You in the mystery…
In oceans deep my faith will stand.

And I will call upon Your Name
and keep my eyes above the waves;
When oceans rise, my soul will rest in Your embrace
for I am Yours and You are mine…  (Song of Solomon 6:3)

Your grace abounds in deepest waters;
Your sovereign Hand will be my guide…
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me,
You’ve never failed and You won’t start now!

Chorus

Spirit, lead me where my trust is without borders,
let me walk upon the waters wherever You would call me!
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander,
And my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Saviour…

Jesus reaching out through the waters

Psalm 144:7a “Send Thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters…”

Matthew 14

23  And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, He was there alone.  24  But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.  25  And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.  26  And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a spirit;” and they cried out for fear.  27  But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.”  28  And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it be Thou, bid me come unto Thee on the water.”  29  And He said, “Come.” And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  30  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, “Lord, save me.”  31  And immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand, and caught him, and said unto him, “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”  32  And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.  33  Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped Him, saying, “Of a truth thou art the Son of God.”

Psalm 34

A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.

1  I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.  2  My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.  3  O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His Name together.  4  I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.  5  They looked unto Him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.  6  This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.  7  The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth them.  8  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.  9  O fear the LORD, ye His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him.  10  The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.  11  Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.  12  What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?  13  Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.  14  Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.  15  The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry.  16  The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.  17  The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.  18  The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.  19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.  20  He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.  21  Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.  22  The LORD redeemeth the soul of His servants: and none of them that trust in Him shall be desolate.

Reach out and touch the LORD

If your heart is sad and lonely, there’s no joy anywhere.
If there’s no one left to comfort, and there’s no one left to care.
Just cast your cares on Jesus and upon His arms rely,
And reach out and touch the Lord as He walks by.

Though a stranger to the Master and His wonderful grace.
If you’ve never had the pleasure in beholding His face.
Would you lay aside earth’s treasures for a home in the sky,
Then, reach out and touch the Lord as He walks by.

Reach out and touch the Lord as He goes by.
You will find He’s not too busy to hear your heart’s cry.
He’s passing by this moment, your needs He’ll supply,
Just reach out and touch the Lord as He walks by.

All along a dusty roadside, on His way to raise the dead.
Mighty was the crowd that followed, hungry for that Living Bread.
“I must touch Him”, cried a woman, “I must touch Him or I’ll die.”
So, she reached and touched His garment as he passed by.

Mark 5 (see also Matthew 9:20-22 and Luke 8:43-50)

25  And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,  26  and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,  27  When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.  28  For she said, “If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole.”  29  And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.  30  And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that virtue had gone out of Him, turned Him about in the press, and said, “Who touched my clothes?”  31  And His disciples said unto Him, “Thou seest the multitude thronging Thee, and sayest Thou, ‘Who touched me?’ ”  32  And He looked round about to see her that had done this thing.  33  But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before Him, and told Him all the truth.  34  And He said unto her, “Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.”

We’ll understand it better by and by

We are tossed and driven on the restless sea of time;   (James 1:6)
somber skies and howling tempests oft succeed a bright sunshine;
in that land of perfect day, when the mists are rolled away,
we will understand it better by and by.   (Ephesians 1:18)

By and by, when the morning comes,
when the saints of God are gathered Home,
we’ll tell the story how we’ve overcome,   (Revelation 12:11)
for we’ll understand it better by and by.   (John 13:7)

We are often destitute of the things that life demands,   (Philippians 4:11-13)
want of food and want of shelter, thirsty hills and barren lands;
we are trusting in the Lord, and according to God’s Word,  (Psalm 119:42)
we will understand it better by and by.

Chorus

Trials dark on every hand, and we cannot understand
all the ways of God would lead us to that blessed Promised Land;   (Proverbs 20:24)
but he guides us with his eye, and we’ll follow till we die,   (Psalm 32:8)
for we’ll understand it better by and by.

Chorus

Temptations, hidden snares often take us unawares,
and our hearts are made to bleed for a thoughtless word or deed;
and we wonder why the test when we try to do our best,  (John 16:33)
but we’ll understand it better by and by.

Pass me not, O gentle Saviour

Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Saviour, Saviour,
Hear my humble cry,
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Let me at Thy throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contrition,
Help my unbelief.

Trusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by Thy grace.

Thou the spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,
Whom have I on earth beside Thee,
Whom in Heav’n but Thee.  (Psalm 73:25)
