Overcomer

Staring at a stop sign, watching people drive by,
t-Mac on the radio…
Got so much on your mind, nothing’s really going right,
looking for a ray of hope…  (Psalm 130:7)

Whatever it is you may be going through,
I know He’s not gonna let it get the best of you!  (1 Cor. 10:13)

You’re an overcomer!  Stay in the fight ‘til the final round!  (1 Cor. 9:24)
You’re not going under, ‘cause God is holding you right now!  (John 10:29)
You might be down for a moment, feeling like it’s hopeless –
that’s when He reminds you that you’re an overcomer…
You’re an overcomer!

Everybody’s been down, hit the bottom, hit the ground…
Ooh, you’re not alone!  (1 Peter 5:8-10, Matt. 28:20)
Just take a breath, don’t forget, hang on to His promises –
He wants You to know:

Chorus

The same Man, the Great I am, the One who overcame death,
He’s living inside of You!  (John 11:25-26, 1 Cor. 15:54-57)
So just hold tight, fix your eyes on the One who holds your life –  (John 10:29)
there’s nothing He can’t do!  (Matt. 28:18, Col. 2:9, Eph. 1:20-23)
He’s telling you:

(Take a breath, don’t forget, hang on to His promises…)
(2 Peter 3:9, Rom. 4:21, 2 Cor. 1:20, Titus 1:2, Heb. 6:15, Heb. 10:23)

Chorus

Don’t quit, don’t give in, you’re an overcomer!

Be still and know

"Be still and know that I am God..." Psalm 46:10 (King James Version)

Psalm 46

1  To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2  Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3  Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
4  There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
5  God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
6  The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
7  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
8  Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
9  He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Blue Skies

Yesterday’s forecast called for rain and I
found all my so-called friends to be fair weather kind.
Looking for shelter, I was standing out in my pain;
That’s when You came and You changed everything

‘Cause April-showers bring May-flowers, like
only You turn my darkest hour into

Blue skies, blue skies
Not a cloud over-head in my life
When it’s gray out, I don’t mind –
I’ve got blue skies on the inside

Tossed about upon the stormy sea I swayed
Scared to death, not at the wind, but what I heard You say:
It’s not every time Your hand the wind will stay
Sometimes You’re calling me to walk out on the waves…

My perception should be a reflection,
not of what my eyes see, but what Jesus tells me

Chorus

I’m not saying I won’t ever have a problem
Sometimes life’s gonna rain on my parade,
but if I know that You’re right here with me then
why should I worry? Why should I be afraid?

Outside when the rain is pouring all around,
I don’t have to let it get me down

~ Scripture reference:

Luke 8:22-25
Now it came to pass on a certain day, that He went into a ship with His disciples: and He said unto them, “Let us go over unto the other side of the lake.”  And they launched forth.  But as they sailed He fell asleep:  and there came down a storm of wind on the lake;  and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.  And they came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we perish.”  Then He arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water:  and they ceased, and there was a calm.  And He said unto them, “Where is your faith?”  And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, “What manner of man is this! for He commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey Him.”

Matthew 14:22-33
And straightway Jesus constrained His disciples to get into a ship, and to go before Him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.  And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up into a mountain apart to pray:  and when the evening was come, He was there alone.  But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves:  for the wind was contrary.  And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.  And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a spirit”;  and they cried out for fear.  But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.”  And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it be Thou, bid me come unto Thee on the water.”  And He said, “Come.”  And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid;  and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, “Lord, save me.”   And immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand, and caught him, and said unto him, “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”  And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.  Then they that were in the ship came and worshiped Him, saying, “Of a truth Thou art the Son of God.”

Being His

The lyrics to the song Rooftops (performed by Jesus Culture) says, “I shout out Your Name, from the rooftops I’ll proclaim that I am Yours…”

What does it mean to proclaim for all to hear that I am His?  What does a life look like that declares His Ownership?

Being the LORD’s indicates that I am His possession, and that He is my Owner and Master.  To confess this, I need to accept His Authority and Headship in and over my life.  The Scripture clearly says that Jesus Christ is the Head over all things, and that all things are under His feet (Eph. 1:22, Eph. 4:15, Col. 2:10, Heb. 2:8).

The fruit of living out for all to see that I am His, is having and showing silent resignation and tranquil trust in every situation of life, believing and accepting that God is in control.

No, it will not be easy to accept His Authority in every situation, especially when we don’t understand why things happen, or why we are going through difficulties, pain and suffering.  It will require a cold choice most of the time.  BUT, accepting His Authority becomes easier when we confess (aloud!) that God sees the bigger picture, and that He is still good.

“And the LORD passed by before him (Moses), and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth…”  (Exodus 34:6)  The Scripture also says that, “… faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”  (Rom. 10:17)  The more we confess God’s abundant goodness, the more faith we will have in His good plans and purpose in all situations of life.  (Jer. 29:11)

Romans 8:28 says that God lets “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

We need to believe in God’s abundant goodness.  We need to confess it out loud to have more faith in His Holy and Good nature.  When we truly accept God’s Authority over everything in our lives (and trustingly submit ourselves under His feet), we will experience how “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:7)

May we learn to accept His Authority over every situation so that all who sees us, will see that “I am His…”

2 Corinthians 4

1  Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2  But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3  But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5  For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6  For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7  But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
8  We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9  Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
10  Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
11  For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
12  So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
13  We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
14  Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
15  For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
16  For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
17  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18  While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Holy Spirit, have Your way

Long after the tears fall I’m still your child,
I put down my defenses and lay down my pride,
Love and forgiveness flow deep and wide
So I’ll run to you and surrender all!

As I lay down my life and pick up my cross –
What a joy it is to give my life away to You!
All that I need, all that I seek
is You here with me –
Holy Spirit have Your way in me!

In times of trouble, though trials may come
The Rock of Ages is standing strong
I’m fighting battles, but the war is won
So I’ll run to you and surrender all…

Chorus

More of You and less of me, God
More of You and less of me, God
More of You and less of me, God
More of You overflowing

Chorus

Psalm 3

1 A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.  LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

2 Many there be which say of my soul, “There is no help for him in God.”  Selah.

3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me;  my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill.  Selah.

5 I laid me down and slept;  I awaked;  for the LORD sustained me.

6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

7 Arise, O LORD;  save me, O my God:  for Thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; Thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD:  Thy blessing is upon Thy people.  Selah.
